2017년 4월 26일 빅토리아 부주지사의 정무차관 주디스 그랄리(Judith Graley) 씨는 국회의사당에서 열린 시상식에서 빅토리아주 유학생 상 수상자를 발표했습니다.

유학생 상은 빅토리아주 유학생 중에서 뛰어난 성과를 보여 준 학생을 인정하고 축하하는 상입니다.

9명의 최우수상 수상자와 11명의 우수상 수상자들은 5개국 출신이며 빅토리아주에 뛰어난 공헌을 한 점에 대해서 인정을 받았습니다.

The annual Victorian International School Student Awards reward outstanding achievement and recognise and honour the unique, valuable and diverse contribution made by international students to the schools sector in Victoria. The awards are open to all international students in Years 11 and 12 in Victorian independent, Catholic and government schools.

Two winners are selected from each category - one from Year 11 and one from Year 12. The exception is the International Student of the Year – Ambassador Award, where only one Year 12 student will be selected.

The winners of the 2015 Awards will be announced at an awards ceremony in May 2016 at Parliament House. To view video interviews with past award-winning students visit the Victorian International School Student Hall of Fame.

Award categories

There are seven award categories, six of which are open to international students in Years 11 and 12. The International Student of the Year – Ambassador Award is only open to Year 12 international students.

Academic Excellence AwardThe award is presented to a Year 12 international student who has achieved the highest ATAR score in VCE or IB equivalent, and to a Year 11 international student who has obtained the highest level of achievement in all subjects.
Arts Achievement AwardOne international student from Year 11 and one from Year 12 will receive this award which recognises outstanding artistic ability. This could be evidenced by achievements such as exceptional contribution to and/or participation in the arts. This includes visual and performing arts work as defined in relevant VCE subjects.
Community Engagement AwardOne international student from Year 11 and one from Year 12 will receive this award which recognises participation in activities and groups which have a positive impact on the school and the wider community. This could be evidenced by active involvement in community groups, charities or similar organisations.
Global Citizenship AwardOne international student from Year 11 and one from Year 12 will receive this award which recognises outstanding commitment to fostering integration between local and international students, as well as a high level of intercultural competency and understanding of global issues.
Sports Achievement AwardOne international student from Year 11 and one from Year 12 will receive this award which recognises outstanding commitment to fostering integration between local and international students, as well as a high level of intercultural competency and understanding of global issues.
Student Leadership AwardOne international student from Year 11 and one from Year 12 will receive this award which recognises outstanding leadership. This could be evidenced by achievements such as Student Representative Council Presidency, membership of School Council or leadership of international student groups.
International Student of the Year
(Ambassador Award)
No separate application is required for this award which is presented to a Year 12 international student, selected from the finalists for the other six awards. The award recipient will have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement, the ability to represent Victorian schools, and leadership through engaging with both the school and wider community.

Why enter?

The awards program sends a strong message to overseas governments, international education agents and families of prospective international students, about the Victorian Government’s commitment to international students in schools. It also allows Victoria to showcase and profile the high quality of its school educational offerings by highlighting the achievements and contributions of international students.

The award recipients will become future program ambassadors, forming an alumni group which can:

  • promote the benefits of the International Student Program
  • maintain established relationships and networks with the Victorian community
  • represent the Victorian learning community globally

Who can be nominated?

All international students (standard and dependant students) in Years 11 and 12 in Victorian government, Catholic and independent schools can be nominated for six awards.

The following students are not eligible for nomination:

  • dependants of permanent residents
  • students under specialist entrance visas whose status confers a tuition fee exemption (such as subclass 419 Visiting Academics)

Conditions of entry

To be considered valid, entries must be completed in full using the online nomination form.

School Principals are responsible for ensuring that they nominate international students in the correct category. Judges do not have the discretion to re-assign applications to another category.

Nomination materials become the property of the Department and will not be returned at the conclusion of the judging process.

Photographs or video materials presented as a part of nominations should be of high resolution or of broadcast standard.

School Principals are responsible for ensuring that nominated students sign the consent form in relation to privacy, release of information and media requirements, prior to submitting nomination forms.

How to enter?

Only school Principals or their delegate can submit nominations via the Online Nominations Portal (when available), following the steps outlined below. Nomination for the International Student of the Year – Ambassador Award category is not required, as nominees for the six other awards automatically become nominees for this award.

  1. When made available on this webpage, click on the E-Awards Nominations Portal to lodge your application
  2. Follow the instructions to create a school account
  3. Select the category to which you wish to nominate your student
  4. Read the nomination conditions, selection criteria and note the supporting documentation required
  5. Complete the online nomination form
  6. Upload material to support nominations. All categories require:
    • Student statement, written by the student, 400 words per selection criterion (total of 1,200 words maximum)
    • Principal’s supporting statement, 300 – 500 words maximum

Refer to “selection criteria and documentation requirements” for additional requirements in some categories.

There will be an electronic acknowledgement of all nominations. Once all nominations have been received and the judging process has been completed by the judging panel, only finalists will be notified and invited to attend the presentation ceremony at a date to be determined.

The judging panel will not consider nominations submitted after the close of the nomination period

Judging process

The selection of finalists and winner in each category will be determined by judging panels convened by the Department of Education and Training. Panels will include representatives from, or nominated by, the Department, the Catholic Education Office, Independent Schools Victoria, Government Schools and Subject Experts. For each category the winner will be selected from three finalists.

Nominations will be judged according to how well they meet award selection criteria. Judges’ decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into. All written material associated with judges’ deliberations is confidential and will not be made available to third parties.

Finalists in the International Student of the Year – Ambassador Award category will be contacted by the judging co-ordinator informing them of the date and time for their interviews during February/March 2016. Inability to attend interviews may be grounds for exclusion from consideration in this category.

Awards ceremony and media requirements

All finalists will be invited to attend the Victorian International School Student Awards Ceremony in May 2016.

The Victorian Government reserves the right to use all or part of any material generated (photographs, film footage, application submissions or any detail) for the purpose of the Awards or for publication online, in print or other broadcast media, for publicity, promotional materials or campaigns.

Finalists and winners of the Victorian International School Student Awards may be required to participate in media interviews.

By applying, nominees and nominating Principals agree that their contact details may be provided for promotional purposes to agencies engaged on behalf of award organisers.

No, only Years 11 and 12 full fee paying international students can be nominated for the awards.
No, international students must be nominated by their School Principal or the Principal’s nominee.
It is highly unlikely that an international student will excel in the selection criteria for all awards. The Principal will decide the categories in which to nominate their international students. The following six awards are open to both Year 11 and 12 international students:
  • Academic Excellence Award
  • Arts Achievement Award
  • Community Engagement Award
  • Global Citizen Award
  • Sports Achievement Award
  • Student Leadership Award

The International Student of the Year Ambassador Award is only open to Year 12 international students. Nomination for this category is not required, as nominees of the six other awards automatically become nominees for this award.

For the awards, only Year 12 international students are eligible for the International Student of the Year Ambassador Award. They will be nominated through one of the six other awards.
Up to three finalists will be selected for each award and the winner will be selected from the three finalists.
In the overview of each award category there is a link to the selection criteria and required documentation for that category.
A student statement must be written by the student and should address the relevant award selection criteria. The student statement must not exceed 1200 words, representing a maximum of 400 words for each of the three awards criteria. Judges will not consider information in excess of 1200 words.
Supporting documentation is further evidence that you meet the selection criteria. The selection criteria for each award category will specify the supporting documentation required to support the application.
Judges will be looking for evidence about how well your nomination meets the selection criteria for the relevant award. They will look for evidence in your written claim, your Principal’s written claim and other supporting documentation supplied in accordance with the award category requirements.
Judges will only be interviewing finalists shortlisted for the International Student of the Year Ambassador Award. If you are one of the shortlisted finalists, you will be invited to attend an interview in February/March 2016. If you are unable to attend the interview, it may be grounds for excluding your nomination from further consideration in this category.
All finalists and their nominators will be contacted prior to the Awards. All finalists are required to attend the awards ceremony in May 2016.
