Global learning and engagement is vital in the 21st century. Your child will need a global mindset to succeed in a more complex, interconnected and competitive world. Self-awareness, self-confidence and a willingness to embrace cultures, diversity and knowledge of the world and other societies are significant assets for young people in today’s world.

Learning languages and cultures
Every Victorian school is required to teach another language. This can open up new worlds to students as they not only learn another language but also the cultures related to it. Learning another language has direct benefits in learning, understanding and mastering English as demonstrated by many university research projects.

Global learning and engagement in the curriculum
The Victorian Curriculum specifically includes global citizenship and intercultural capability to build your child’s awareness, understanding and skillset in the 21st century. Global citizenship has five components to help them become global citizens:
- interconnection and globalisation
- intercultural capability
- conflict resolution and peace
- social justice and human rights
- sustainable futures
Intercultural capability is one of four general capabilities of the curriculum. Intercultural capability aims to help students become local and global citizens, equipped for living and working together in an interconnected world. It enables students to learn to value their own cultures, languages and beliefs, and those of others. Students learn about diverse cultures in ways that recognise commonalities and differences, create connections with others and cultivate mutual respect.
