Supplementary English Language Program

The Supplementary Intensive English Language Program (IELP) is an initiative that was established by the International Education Division, DEECD and aims to further support the development of English language proficiency amongst international students.

Delivered by the Blackburn English Language School, the Supplementary English Language Program provided additional intensive English language study to 39 international students during the 4 week period from 19 December 2011 to 13 January 2012.

A graduation ceremony for the students, who hail from China, Vietnam, Korea, Japan and Thailand was held on Friday 13 January and included student musical performances and speeches, followed by a presentation of certificates and student lunch.

Reflecting upon the benefit of the supplementary program, graduating international student Dongqi Yang stated ‘coming to Australia to study was a difficult decision for me but I know it was the correct choice. My main reason to study in Melbourne was to learn English because I will understand the world better as it is the international language. I was very happy to study at this language program because I’ve made some new friends and learnt many necessary skills for VCE in this program’.

Congratulations to all graduates and we wish you the best of luck in your upcoming studies.
