Chinese teacher training

A Chinese Teacher Training Centre has been launched at the University of Melbourne to promote the sustained development of Chinese language in Australia.

The Centre is a Victorian initiative jointly funded by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (DEECD) and The Office of the Chinese Language Council International (HANBAN).

Promoting Chinese language learning in Australian schools

The Centre will support the teaching and learning of Chinese language and culture in Australian schools by:

  • increasing teacher capacity through professional development
  • increasing student access to quality curriculum materials
  • supporting Chinese language education through research.

Launching the Centre

At the launch on August 3rd, 2009, Professor Dawkins and Mme Xu Lin, Director General of HANBAN signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the DEECD and HANBAN and unveiled a commemorative plaque.
